Chantilly Lace

Let’s begin with the most popular type of lacing for wedding gowns, Chantilly lace. Chantilly lace is delicate and consists of fine floral design making the design stand out. Unlike most laces, the design is done there is no underneath mesh within the netting, meaning it is all one layer. It is easily recognizable by its scalloped edges and eye-lashing details standing out on the ends. Its delicate and light details make it the perfect lacing for wedding gowns.

Allover Lace

Allover lace or otherwise known as embroidered net is the lacing that usually comes to mind with first thinking of lace. This is a lace fabric with delicate embroidery done on a fine mesh background. Allover lace tends to have some type of floral design and looks almost printed on the mesh.

French Embroidered Lace

French embroidered lace sometimes known as Alencon is also another lacing that is popular for wedding gowns. This lace consists of a netting underlay with raised motifs such as swirls and floral details. We tend to see beading with this lacing as well, such as crystals, pearls, or even rhinestones. The raised motifs are outlined with cordonnet which is a silk on the heavier side, which allows to create depth and dimensions to the motifs.

Venetian Lace

Venetian lace is the perfect type of lacing for beach wedding gowns. Venetian lace can be mistaken for crotchet. It consists of a heavier raised geometric or floral design with no netting or mesh under. The silk threads connect all the motifs in the lace to one another.

Lace Applique

Lace applique tends to be confused with French embroidered lace quite a bit. Lace applique are actually motifs as well but are applied separately on fabric instead of constructions alongside. Applique tends to be sold separately so if you feel a gown is missing extra details applique can be your best friend.
