How to Care for Your Beloved Gown
So, you found your dream wedding dress? Here are some few steps to take to ensure your gown is well taken care of!
Before the wedding
Hanging & Storing Your Gown: Hang your wedding gown as high as possible and leave it inside the garment bag. Secure the wedding dress by the inside loops, never the shoulders.
Climate: Keep it away from heat and dampness. Wedding gowns are made of delicate fabrics, which can be damaged by wetness and extreme heat. It is necessary to keep the wedding dress away from heat and dampness. Don’t put the dress in a harsh light because it can fade its color.
Gown Gazing: we know it’s tempting, trust us but in order to keep your wedding dress pristine and free of wrinkles, try not to remove it from garment bag or handle it too much before your wedding day. If you do decide to peek a look, make sure your hands are clean!
On your wedding day
Steaming: Make sure to steam out any wrinkles prior to putting on your gown. Wrinkles often appear from the day when getting a wedding dress till wearing it on the wedding day. The wrinkles on the wedding dress might be pulling the look down. Simple steaming can help eliminate most wrinkles in the wedding outfit but ensure that the dress doesn’t get wet.
Ready to Wear: Put on your wedding gown only after your hair and makeup flawless and ready to go. If you have to touch up, place a clean white towel over your dress to avoid any fallout. Make an emergency bridal gown kit to have on hand—extra beads/sequins, baby powder (for easy wedding dress stain removal), even add in a mini sewing kit. Last but most important, remember to hold up your wedding skirt and train when outdoors. Now all you have to do is shine on your special day!
After the wedding
Hang your wedding dress and let it breathe a bit. If you want to wear your dress again, it should be dry-cleaned right after the wedding and stored in a box. You’ll need a box for storing your gown that’s at least 1/3 the length of the front of your wedding dress. Be sure to use lots of tissue to line the box and stuff the dress to keep deep creases from forming. Take your wedding dress out of storage every so often, look for deterioration of any kind, and return it to its box to keep it in its best condition.
Professional Preservation: If you want to guarantee that your wedding dress is stored in absolutely perfect condition, it’s best to have it professionally preserved, with methods that remove existing damage and box the dress so that it’s completely shielded from the elements.
